Who Can Audition?
In order to audition for THE KOMPANY's Dance Team, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:
At least 18 years of age and post-high school (Running Start students are ineligible to audition)
Have a filmable head-to-toe dance space (filmed horizontally), a device that can film at least 720p, ability to play music while recording, and internet access for attending ZOOM meetings and uploading video files. You must be able to dance in this space WITHOUT wearing a mask.
Able to attend weekly dance team practices over ZOOM, Sundays 5:30PM-7:15PM PDT (PST after Nov. 1st)
Able and intending to return to the Seattle area if/when circumstances are safe to resume in-person activities (based on University of Washington campus guidelines)
In the event that in-person activities resume, dance team members who are not UW students must be able to cover additional fees such as IMA access, transportation, and parking
How Can I Audition?
Auditions will be held entirely online. There are 3 main parts to auditions.
You will learn short sections of the 2 selected audition songs. Tutorial videos for these dances will be posted in an unlisted YouTube playlist.
Your audition songs are “Moonlight Aria” by ARIAZ and “Illusion” by ATEEZ
Dance Captains will hold "office hours" on ZOOM for you to ask questions about the dances and/or audition process. The link will be posted in the Facebook event page (or click here), and these sessions will be recorded and posted for later viewing.
There will be one hour reserved for each dance. We recommend that you join as much of this workshop as you can so we can avoid repeat questions.
You will be required to film yourself performing both songs back-to-back in one take. Additional guidelines can be found below.
Forms and Questionnaires
In order to audition, you will need to fill out the Pre-Registration Form. You may fill out the Pre-Registration form and later decide not to audition, but you will NOT be able to submit an audition if you do not fill out this form. This form is how you will receive your audition number.
The Audition Form is where you will upload your audition video and answer several questions about yourself. This form will be available for the entire audition week, but you will not be able to submit the form until you receive your audition number.
After reviewing your audition videos and forms, the Dance Captains will select auditionees to return for ZOOM interviews. Interview slots are limited and do not indicate an increased chance of acceptance. You can be accepted with or without an interview. The interview schedule will be posted on the Facebook event page, and interviewees will be emailed the ZOOM link.
Audition Video Guidelines
Your audition video must be filmed horizontally in a well-lit space where we can see your full body and face.
No other people should be in the video.
No edits or cuts are allowed. Both audition pieces must be performed back-to-back in one video using the audio provided.
The music must be clearly audible. You can play the audio from the third video in the Audition playlist, or by using this file.
Audition videos should be at least 720p.
Please refer to the images below as references for how you should film your audition video
When Will I Know if I've Been Accepted?
We aim to have our final decision emails sent out by Sunday, January 17th, 10:00PM PDT, but this time/date may change. All auditionees will receive an email of either acceptance or rejection.
What If I Have Other Questions?
If you have any general questions or confusions about our audition process, please contact us through Facebook at THE KOMPANY, or message one of our Dance Captains!
